Moving and Packing Tips
Our Professional Staff can help with any questions you may have
Moving Refrigerators/Freezers
Defrost and thoroughly dry your refrigerator and freezer prior to the scheduled moving day. This is very important. The doors should be left open several hours to air and dry after defrosting. All loose pans and trays should be removed and packed. Regular shelves can be left in place. Empty the drain pan. If there is an ice maker, it must be serviced by a third party.
Moving Dryers
Detach the electric dryer hose from the wall connection. Gas dryers must have lines detached.
Rugs
Vacuum rugs and carpets. We will roll the carpet to move it. Small rugs can be rolled and secured with tape.
|
Moving Washers
Prior to the moving date, unscrew all water connectors for your washer or have a serviceman do this. Roll the hoses, wrap, and place them inside the washer. Be sure to check for leaks in your plumbing. A washer pack can also be purchased to stabilize the washer tub from movement.
Mowers and Gas Powered Tools
Gas tanks should be drained and oil reservoirs emptied. No flammable mixtures or articles may be transported on public carriers.
Stoves/Ranges
Any electrical or gas lines must be serviced by a professional. All removable parts should be packed.

Televisions
LCD, flat screens, plasma TVs are best moved in their original boxes. Special cartons can be purchased or rented for TV screens. LCD or plasma TVs with a screen size over 50 inches will be transported in a custom-built crate upon request at an additional charge. Older big screen TV’s and table model sets do not require special handling.
|
Cartons
Containers should be good, sturdy, clean, and sealed on all seams with tape. All cartons must be sealed on top. Do not use garment bags or trash bags. Moving cartons, tape, and other supplies are available for purchase from us at competitive prices.
|
Wrapping Paper
It is best to pack your household goods in unprinted newsprint. We supply unprinted newspaper for purchase.
|
Remove
All items that are directly screwed or otherwise attached to walls or cabinets cannot be removed by our personnel. These items may include under cabinet appliances, towel racks, etc.

Beds |
Books
|
Beds will be dismantled at the origin residence and reassembled at the destination residence. Mattresses and box springs should be packed in a carton for a long-distance move or a move into storage. Polybags are used for local moves to protect against spoilage. All of these supplies can be purchased from our inventory.
Clothing
Hanging clothes are hung in wardrobe cartons. Wardrobe cartons are made to hold clothes on hangers to avoid wrinkling. Wardrobe cartons are available upon request. Small clothing items can be packed in cartons, suitcases, trunks, or left in dresser drawers.
Lamps
Unscrew the finial or unclip the shade and pack in a carton, preferably by itself. Cushion shade with paper. Remove and wrap bulbs with a wrapped lampshade. Lamp bases should be wrapped and placed in a separate carton. Floor lamps require only that the light bulb is removed unless the shade or lamp body itself is fragile. Special floor lamp cartons are available for packing fragile floor lamps upon request.
|
Books should be packed in small, strong cartons and should be packed standing upright using paper to separate. The recommended weight for all cartons is not to exceed 40 pounds.
Kitchen Items
Pack canned food upright in small, strong cartons. Carton weight is best handled under 40 pounds. Kitchen utensils should be wrapped and placed in cartons. Durable heavy items are placed in the bottom of cartons, light items on top with each piece wrapped. Small appliances should be wrapped and placed in a medium-size carton, 2-3 to a box, depending on size. Dispose of food in open containers that might spill or spoil in route. Perishable food should never be shipped. If your shipment is going to be stored, dispose of any open food, and check expiration dates. Silverware should be wrapped and packed in a silver chest or carton. For dishes, glasses, and all breakables, use a sturdy walled carton such as a dish pack. All items must be packed individually. Large plates and heavy items should be placed at the bottom of the carton on the edge. Place smaller items towards the top. Ideally, there should be 2-3 inches of crushed paper to cushion all sides of the carton (bottom, top, and sides). We inventory these supplies for your convenience.

Mirrors/Art Work
Wall mirrors and dresser mirrors should be packed. Mirror packs and mirror pads are special items designed for this purpose and can be purchased from our inventory. Any hardware removed from the dresser mirror should be placed in the top dresser drawer. Small pictures can be packed in moving cartons. Any mirror, glass tabletop, or artwork over 48” may require special custom crating for transport. Custom crates available upon request.
